Axel Hoedt - Fastnacht (2010)
“A document of the famous ‘Fastnacht Festival’, which literally translates to ‘the night before fasting’, a festival celebrated throughout Austria and Switzerland. The annual adornment of masks that are inherently frightening and grotesque stems from the aim of chasing away ‘the spirits of winter away in preparation for the coming spring and new harvest’. The carnival-like festivities stem from both Christian and Pagan traditions.”

Fiberglass, acrylic paint, iron
Dioramas reconstructing scenes from Mr. Ai Weiwei’s illegal detention in China in 2011, when he was held for 81 days in a secret prison guarded by a paramilitary unit. Six fiberglass dioramas depict, at half-scale, his often banal daily existence as a captive of the vast government security apparatus.

How the fuck did I ever drink instant coffee? Nae gid.
So last week me and my friend were trying out a faceswap app
And for some reason it wouldn’t recognise that there were 2 faces in the picture
So we tried it from a different angle and
I was really confused and kind of offended at what it’d done to my face
BUT THEN
IVE NEVER LAUGHED SO HARD IN MY LIFE

Personified Architectural Vehicles by Calvin Ma
In creating these mobile forms in his series “Homebodies”, Calvin Ma wanted to express his love for action figures and their ability to captivate and innovate stories to comfort us. His ceramic and stoneware sculptures combine stationary architectural structures and roving vehicles with the human (and kitty) form in a mashup of irregularity and contradictions, but still retaining that facial hint of childlike inquisitiveness, ready to make up an entirely new adventure.
